Insulating glass, invented by an American in 1865, is a building material with heat and sound insulation properties. It consists of two (or three) panes of glass bonded to an aluminum alloy frame containing a desiccant using a high-strength, airtight composite adhesive. It is widely used in residential buildings, office buildings, hospitals, and other indoor air-conditioned applications, as well as in vehicle windows and doors. It can also be used in glass curtain walls for transportation hubs, shopping malls, hotels, and large office areas.

 

Insulating glass is primarily used in buildings requiring heating, air conditioning, noise reduction, or condensation prevention. Its heat insulation effect can reach 20%-40%, and when filled with argon, krypton, or xenon gas and coated with a Low-E coating, the heat insulation performance can be improved to over 60%. Sound insulation is affected by glass thickness, air gap thickness, and installation quality; it can be enhanced by sealing treatments and heavy curtains.
