1. Filling with Inert Gases Argon and Krypton

According to experts in energy-efficient housing design and construction, for a single window, heat loss from the room mainly occurs through conduction through the window frame, radiation from the glass, and convection through gaps in the window sash and door frame. This is why "double-glazed windows" were developed. In fact, double-glazed windows are not truly "empty." Technically, the gap between the two layers of double-glazed windows is generally 8mm. Tests have shown that if this 8mm gap were completely vacuumed, atmospheric pressure would crush the glass. Therefore, qualified double-glazed windows must fill the 8mm gap with inert gases argon and krypton. After filling, tests show that the K-value (heat transfer coefficient limit) decreases by 5% compared to a vacuum state, meaning better insulation performance.

 

2. Misleading Double-Layer Glass on the Market

In other words, if the double-glazed glass you purchase truly has a "hollow" interlayer, it undoubtedly means that its insulation or heat and cold insulation performance is at best that of double-glazed glass. Its energy-saving effect will inevitably be poor. Scientific testing has proven that qualified double-glazed glass can reduce the heat transfer coefficient (k-value) of ordinary window glass from 3.5 to 2.8. Reduced heat transfer performance prevents heat loss from the room. Counterfeit double-glazed glass on the market is mostly just two panes of glass simply fixed together, resulting in undoubtedly poor heat insulation performance.

 

3. Perforated Aluminum Strips Between Glass panes

Poorly insulated double-glazed windows often experience fogging, mold growth, and even mildew due to the entry of air and moisture. Some manufacturers resort to a "processing" method of sandwiching perforated aluminum strips between the two panes of glass and placing granular desiccant in the pores. However, this only provides a temporary fix and does not improve the insulation performance of the double-glazed windows. Over time, the desiccant will degrade, revealing the problem.
